Aylesbury Canal Basin
-
Grand Union Canal Basin opened in 1814 and played an important part in industrialisation
-
The basin site, prior to regeneration, was home to a small number of businesses, boat moorings and car parks with no access to the waterfront
-
In 2010 there was a cultural arts focused regeneration with the creation of the Waterside Theatre, Bucks university, a Waitrose and Travelodge. The waterfront was also opened up to create new walkways.
-
Waterfront activities were introduced such as floating markets, canal boat trips and wake-boarding and paddle boarding which encouraged diverse people to come and live on the canal boats
-
Points to use for London Docklands:
-
making use of the waterfront
-
bringing people closer to nature through fauna and flora
-
greater legibility and safety through layout and design
